Action Stations

New in 3.1.1:

  • Corrections to Collision Damage calculations.

New in 3.1:

  • Clarifications to the order of play involving aircraft.

  • Corrections to Gunnery modifiers.

  • Adjustment to torpedo fire so you cannot shoot yourself.

  • Air-to-Air Combat has new combat rules and damage effects.

  • Surface-to-Air Combat has changes and expansion to AA rules and new rules for Friendly Fire.

  • Air-to-Surface Bombing has introduction of horizontal range to replicate the Bomb Release Line. New Dive Bombing Rules.

  • Some corrections to Game Play Tables.

Other Items

  • Revision in March 2005 of torpedo firing rules to clarify sequence of play, simplify effects of the first turn while the torpedo arms, and change the to hit rolls (allowing for length of time in the water and effects of wide and narrow spreads). This revision is available in the revised corrections download sheet.

The changes that appear in this volume represent data corrections unless otherwise noted. These are so far rectification of typing errors.

Fire When Ready

The second edition of these rules incorporates a new alternative initiative system, as well as a new gunnery system for use in larger battles. The ship data list has been greatly expanded and there are now 10 scenarios provided.

Form Line of Battle

Back in Print as Edition 4.1 (April 2006) which includes revised Copenhagen Scenario.

A correction to the Copenhagen Scenario is available as a download.

New in 4.0:

  • Scenario set up clarified.
  • Order of play revised slightly.
  • Movement rules expanded and some rules treated as detailed which can be left out if desired.
  • Shooting rules tidied up, some rules treated as detailed which can be left out if desired.
  • Master Gunners used optionally in version 3 dropped.
  • Optional reload rules based on Crew skill.
  • Enemy shooting in your phase clarified (this is impromptu fire).
  • New gunnery results table.
  • New criteria for critical hits (a double on dice, that causes damage).
  • Better and more detailed explanation of the effects of Gunnery.
  • Striking Ships rules clarified and expanded.
  • Boarding actions changed so that 1) they are resolved in one phase and 2) no longer use the broadside as a combat factor.

  • Corrections in January 2005: clarification regarding resolution of Boarding Actions, text corrections in some scenarios regarding Crew Quality and weather
  • Clarifications in January 2005: show the effect of various gunnery results with the different levels of detail possible in a game.
  • Clarification in March 2005 of sequence of Damage and Repair, which can mean that repair is done before a damage has an effect in play

  • Clarification on use of miscellaneous stores.
  • Explanation of effect of obsolescence on cost and correction of text error.
  • Correction to Diving and Climbing Half Loop rules.
  • Clarification of effect of difference in height when obtaining a lock for air to air missiles.
  • Correction of error in modifiers when resolving a missile attack (pluses and minuses inverted)
  • Revised rule when making an attack on a surface target to define effect when attacking a "multiple target".
  • Data correction for F-84F Thunderstreak.
  • Correction of typing error in spelling of Yakovlev.

Grand Fleet Actions in the Age of Sail

Back in print as 2nd Edition with updated rules (April 2006).

  • Command Quality and Traits tidied up and added to basic system.
  • Initiative procedure altered to use Quality and Traits to "tie break".
  • Gunnery Weapons expanded.
  • Ramming Rules Clarified and slightly altered (one dice roll not one per ship so significant ramming. damage to target more likely to "dent" the attacker).
  • Boarding Rules clarified.
  • Crew Quality modifiers used more in game (and corrected).
  • A few more ships.
  • Suggested Points values calculation added.

Blue Steel Grey Thunder

New in 2.0:

  • All the data from Ironclads at War is combined into this edition.
  • Additional Rules have been rewritten
  • Some extra rules have been removed and put on site as downloads.

This product is no longer available. All the ship data has been placed in the 2nd Edition of Blue Steel Grey Thunder.

Other Items

  • Revision in March 2005 of underlying calculations in Flak Defences to clarify how much Flak you get for how many guns. This is particularly necessary in attacks on ship targets. The correction is available as a download.
