Data download page
Updated 30 January 2011 (Reposted weapon data file)
Since 2007 we have undertaken an extensive updating and
expansion of the ship data. Revision of the gunnery data has meant that many
values from the original rules have been altered, with a consequent change
in points values. In addition, a change to the application of the cost
component provided by weapons in the ship points values has been applied, so
that each weapon now has a value over any maximum range up to 5 range bands.
This means that a ship with a gun that can shoot 5 RB, but which can only
see 4 RB applies a cost appropriate to 4 RB.
There are five sections to this page.
They are Construction,
Pre-Dreadnought Ships,
World War 1 ships,
World War 2 ships and
Data Changes. In addition
there is a sheet of 8 Generic merchant ships.
There are now over 1300 ship classes and
variants in the database. You should
note that there are up to four batteries of main armament. Batteries 5 and 6
are used for the alternates in the case of changes to armament, and there
are fields that show which battery number is replaced in either case, as
well as any changes in cost or DPAA value and there is an extra note
regarding the change. Please also note that the original data file includes
accented characters, umlauts, etc.
I have had a thought regarding the data fields
in the main database which hold the names of ships in the classes and notes.
In the main database these are unlimited in length. In the past I have spent
time endeavouring to make sure that the spreadsheet has all the data. This
is quite a time consuming job, so I have hit on a solution, by providing two
separate PDFs which show the information on "ships in class" and "notes" for
those fields which bust the 255 character limit. These fields are
specifically marked in the Excel file, and you can find the data by
cross-referencing the Ship ID Number with the info on the PDFs. There are
some cases where the ships in class information has some keys which refer to
the "notes" field in the spreadsheet, and some notes may hold keys to
explain a mark in the "ships in class" field in the spreadsheet.
I have now also added a similar small
file to use with the Excel Weapon data table. As a word of warning, it is
prudent to resort this file: First you should filter it on 'G' or 'T', then
sort ascending or descending, your choice, using the first column.
There should be a total of 470 lines in the file.
Construction
The following files provide a combined edition of the
two original construction downloads, updated to cover any revisions with a new separate weapon data sheet.
Some words of explanation are required regarding the
weapon data document. In the original construction system we provided weapon data
by nationality. When we were updating the database, it came to light that
for the early period there are many cases where one nation provided arms for
many others, and this was leading to a lot of duplication. For this reason
in the case of the earlier weapons you will find them listed under their
primary manufacturer, followed then by a breakdown of their use by other
nations. We hope that this is acceptable. The data tables now show a cost
component applicable to the weapon which varies by the range over which it
can be used by the ship concerned.
You will also find that because we have been able to
group the weapons, those with identical game capability are all listed
together. This is another reason why the game data now shows a gun with a
simpler annotation such as 12" (L/45) - [01]. The number in brackets is just
an identifier so you can trace it back to the weapon data table if you want
to see what gun it is. This identifier has no actual value in the game.
We have also made an Excel file of the
weapon data and cost table which may be of some help. As a word of caution,
the weapon data document has over 70 pages.

World War 2 Ships 1920-1945
Data
Changes
22 June 2009
A correction to the game data for the Japanese WW2 Takao Class of Heavy
Cruisers has been made. The Chokai and Maya only carried 8 torpedo tubes for
much of their service. The points values have been adjusted for the base
data for this entry, and also for the optional loadout with improved 24"
torpedoes for Chokai in 1945.
Maya was modified in late 1944 to carry 16 24" tubes but no reloads, as
shown in the dataset, but the Chokai never had these modification applied.
15 June 2010 Data for the Japanese WW2 Shiratsuyu class was corrected.
15 September 2010 The short range torpedoes (10cm range) game data to hit
modifiers has been updated. Originally the modifier was calculated slightly
differently to those used for "normal" torpedoes. This has now been
rectified so that many to hit modifiers are much worse, and this is
reflected in cost changes to these weapons (insignificant cost changes to
actual ships). In addition, the construction system has been slightly
tweaked so that when the total weapons fit costs round to 0, a minimum of 1
is put into the cost of the ship. 27 October 2010 New game data for
small ships has been added, as well as some other additional vessels. In
addition there were some slight errors in armour in various US vessels -
mainly WW1 and WW2, with a serious mistake in the Cleveland's values - my
finger slipped, honest 'guv ! 2 November 2010 A teeny adjustment has
been made to correct a mis-sort in the Russian WW2 destroyers section. No
data changes. 3 November 2010 The correct file link for the German WW2
data has been put in. 7 January 2011 One new ship added (HMS Furious as
a WW1 carrier) and quite a few minor alterations purely in the number of
quick firers in the Pre Dreadnought and WW1. This has come about while
researching while preparing for the 2nd Edition, of which more elsewhere.
13 January 2011 The method of determining the target size of groups small
vessels was corrected and there are 41 modifications, all to small torpedo
boats in the Austria (WW1), France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and Turkey
(Pre-D), and Germany (WW2) files. 26 January 2011 We discovered some
errors in the gun mountings on a few WW1 capital ships where the ship data
implies that cross deck fire is possible, which it is not, without doing
damage to the ship. This is an aspect of gunnery which we decided we would
not permit (in part due to the problems of what arc a gun could engage in).
We also found some other errors where an inappropriate arc had been used.
The changes are in the British, German and Italian WW1 data files. 22
February 2011 While playing a game last Sunday, as an Italian commander, I
was extremely puzzled by the S and F values for one the battleships of the
Andrea Doria class. Investigation found that one of the underlying pieces of
data (the beam) had been entered incorrectly. This has now been corrected,
and the ships in WW1 and WW2 have distinctly healthier S and F. A cursory
examination of other battleship data in the database indicates that this was
a one-off error. Apologies ! |
